CSG inquiry coming to Lismore
Posted: September 6, 2011 Filed under: News Leave a comment »Public hearings into coal-seam gas mining will begin this month. Lismore will be the first town in NSW to be given the opportunity for the public to face the enquiry on 21 September.
The inquiry will consider both environmental and social impacts of CSG mining and site inspections will be held in Casino and Kyogle, where CSG exploration is already underway. The committee won’t be looking at sites around Lismore – an inquiry spokesperson told ABC radio ‘there’s nothing to see’.
Written submissions into the industry close tomorrow. The submissions will be posted on the inquiry’s website and will provide a background for public hearings.
The inquiry will run through the afternoon and evening and a spokesperson for the inquiry suggested that individuals with similar concerns get together to put their points of view.
The committee will report back to the government in April 2012.
